Creative Art Workshops Provoke Children to Envision Themselves In The Future

Children from all over the Metro Atlanta area came together on Sept 17th and 24th to work with local artists, teachers and volunteers at Art Space International gallery to imagine, think and explore the endless possibilities for their lives and paint their “future self portraits”.

The Creative Art Program presented by Healthy Notions is designed to give children 6-12yrs a voice for creative and artistic expression.

“The arts may be one of the most valuable tools of discovery in helping children deal with mental and emotional stresses of everyday life.”, said Barenda Whitaker, President of Healthy Notions. “When you suspect a child might be suppressing emotions or having challenges communicating his or her feelings, encouraging a child to pick up a paintbrush may provide the perfect outlet to express what’s going on inside.”

Through creative stimulation, the program encourages young people to expand their individual potential, build self-esteem, develop literacy and communication skills and create hope. Thanks to our generous sponsors, the Healthy Notions Creative Art Program workshops were offered to participants at no cost.Children and volunteer artists will be displaying their work side by side during Gallery Openings and Fundraisers held on Nov.5th at Aqua Blue (Roswell GA) and Nov 12th at Art Space International Gallery (Downtown Atlanta).

Our goal from these events is to spotlight the creativity of the participants of the program, and to raise funds to help us keep our presence in our community as a non-profit organization so that we may continue to give scholarships to children in need, provide free Community Events and Programs, and make a positive difference in the future of the children we serve. Prints of the children’s art work will be available for a small donation.
